Training the subconscious mind

I always tell my clients the subconscious mind LOVES what is familiar and LEARNS by repetition. The mind is like a sponge and soaks up every word spoken. It’s important to put great value on the words you speak to yourself, because your subconscious mind is actively listening, taking this all in - like a SPONGE.

Every person has moments in their life where someone has said something that was hurtful, that they likely carried with them. This happens various time, throughout life, whether someone is meaning to be hurtful or not. Many comments actually stem from childhood that we carry with us subconsciously. Something like, ‘why did you do that? Why did you say that? I don’t like your style. You’re not pretty. You’re wrong. You’re different. I don’t have time for you.’

Sound familiar?

When we hear these things, we’re just a kid. And we put a lot of value on these comments, because we’re learning and taking in our surroundings whether we mean to or not. It’s just there. And it makes an impact on our lives until we address it. Even as adults, and throughout life there is a flurry of moments and comments that we have likely subconsciously added value to.

So - there is great value in the words you say to yourself, with repetition.

There is an incredibly easy practice to fix insecurities, challenges, looping thoughts. It takes time and consistency.

One of my favorite projects for clients is to write out everything they want to achieve, write it all down and watch yourself transform. All you need is to be consistent, to speak in the now and to be specific.

For example:

  • I am beautiful inside and out.

  • I have a voice, a voice that matters and I express my needs, easily and effortlessly, every day with complete conviction and grace.

  • I am totally unphased by the opinions of others

  • Right now, I am working towards my goal of ‘x’

Start by writing out five specific goals and read them out to yourself every morning for 21 days. In doing so, you are training your subconscious mind to take in new commands. It won’t feel real at first, but overtime it becomes more familiar and more comfortable and it then becomes true.
